The source of my inspiration this week was the work of John William Waterhouse(1849-1917). Though he is often considered a Pre-Raphaelite painter for the technique, his work is more neo-classical in theme. He paints the femme fatale of roman myths, and poems of Keats and Tennyson. His colors are striking expressions of the story of these women. Shakespeare's Ophelia is a character dear to the Pre-Raphaelites. Waterhouse captures her beauty, and her tormented spirit. The poppies and the blue dress with the river in the background announce the dramatic future of poor Ophelia. The short repeats will give the knit fabric intense touches of color.
