The source of my inspiration this week was the work of John William Waterhouse(1849-1917). Though he is often considered a Pre-Raphaelite painter for the technique, his work is more neo-classical in theme. He paints the femme fatale of roman myths, and poems of Keats and Tennyson. His colors are striking expressions of the story of these women. The danaides are Danaus' 50 daughters who were married on the same day to 50 suitors. Their father ordered them to kill their husbands on their wedding night. All but one did. As a punishment, they were condemned to eternally carry the water of the Styx and pour it into jars with holes at the bottom. The short repeats will give the knit fabric rich touches of color.
